The global success of T10 cricket has prompted one of the forgotten cricketing powerhouses Cricket Kenya to come up with their own T10 league in a bid to re-establish themselves at the high tables of the cricketing fraternity. The T10 league, the first of its kind in Africa, named Africa T10, is set to commence in June next year.

The newly announced league will feature six teams, who will compete for the title in a 34-game tournament. The African board hopes to reclaim their lost glory with the upcoming league, with several renowned global talents on display. Africa's own global league is set to feature one associate Player, one African player, two Kenyan players, and seven other global players in each playing eleven.

Kenya caughted the eyes of the world at the 2003 World Cup when they made their way to the semi-final of the mega ICC event. However, the African outfit's fame was shortlived as they have slumped into anonymity over the last decade. Cricket Kenya's chairman Manoj Patel is hopeful that the introduction of a fast-paced T10 league will propel them back into the international fray.

“We are excited to conceptualize a Global short-format, annual cricket league, in partnership with Pacific Star Sports. Kenya Cricket in particular and African Cricket, in general, would greatly benefit from our initiative. We look forward to inviting all global T20 stars to be part of this and it would be second of its kind after the UAE-based T10 League,” Manoj Patel, Chairman of Cricket Kenya, said in an interview with Business Wire.

The league will be a great learning experience for Kenyan cricketers

Ali Akbar Khan of Pacific Star Sports (a group company of Toyam Sports Limited), the official partner of the proposed league, also expressed his delight in their association with the tournament and hopes that they can bring high-quality cricket back to Kenya via this initiative.

“Africa T10 would be a celebration of Cricket & African Hospitality. We look forward to creating one of the most exciting T10 cricket formats globally, with the intention of bringing high-quality cricket to Kenya. This would not only be a great learning experience for Kenyan Cricketers but also a first-hand entertainment and a great cricketing spectacle for Global Audience, fueled by the best international stars for local fans,” Ali Akbar Khan said.
