Star India pacer Mohammed Shami is set to go under the hammer in the IPL 2025 mega auction after being released by Gujarat Titans last month. However, Sanjay Manjrekar recently predicted that the Bengal seamer will suffer a considerable dip in his price tag at the much-awaited event which takes place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25.
According to Manjrekar, the injury-prone pacer is likely to suffer a substantial price drop because teams may not be confident about his body lasting through the entire season as he just came back to competitive cricket following a prolonged injury layoff.
“There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami’s injury history—and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover—there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season. If a franchise invests heavily and then loses him mid-season, their options become limited. This concern might lead to a drop in his price tag,” Manjrekar said on Star Sports.
This bold prediction from the former India cricketer didn't sit well with Shami as the 34-year-old shot back through an Instagram story. Shami sarcastically asked people to meet Manjrekar to know about their future.
“Baba ki jay hoooo. Thoda sa gyan apne future k lie bhi bacha loo kaam aayega Sanjay G? Kisi ko future janna ho to sir se mile (Hail Baba. Save some knowledge for your future too, it will be useful Sanjay ji? If anyone wants to know the future, then meet sir)," Shami wrote in his Instagram story.

Shami was roped in by Gujarat Titans for INR 6.25 Crore at the previous mega auction ahead of IPL 2022. In his first season with the Gujarat-based franchise, the Bengal pacer took 20 wickets from 16 matches at 24.40. However, his best performance came in the following season in 2023, when Shami bagged 28 wickets from 17 games at 18.64 and went on to win the Purple Cap.
