Dhoni scored two runs but Chennai Super Kings posted the highest total of IPL 2023 while batting first against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Chennai Super Kings thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers as they posted a total of 235/4 while batting first in the 33rd Indian Premier League 2023 match at Eden Gardens on April 23. Chennai Super Kings' top-five batters recorded 18 sixes to guide Chennai to the biggest total of IPL 2023.
Fans at Eden Gardens turned 'yellow' to show their love for the visiting side's skipper as the crowd went crazy and started chanting 'Dhoni Dhoni' when the former Indian skipper stepped out to face the last two deliveries of the first innings. Not just fans, but Kolkata Knight Riders' star batter Venkatesh Iyer also seemed joyous when the crowd demanded a six from Dhoni on the innings' last ball. Cameraman focused his lenses on Iyer who was spotted enjoying the 'Dhoni Dhoni' chant but then tried to hide his excitement after realizing that the camera was on him.
But, Dhoni was not able to treat the fans with a big shot as Kulwant Khejroliya bowled a wide yorker which Dhoni played for two runs.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and elected to bowl first at Eden Gardens. However, it turned out to be a riot from the visiting side's batters as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway added 73 runs for the opening wicket in just 45 balls. Suyash Sharma gave Kolkata a breakthrough in the eighth over with Ruturaj’s wicket, who scored 35 off just 20.
But, Conway recorded his fourth consecutive fifty in IPL 2023 to keep the charge on. Conway scored 56 off 40 before getting caught on Varun Chakravarthy’s delivery in the 13th over. Ajinkya Rahane kept the pressure on as he played a sensational knock of 71* off just 29 balls with the help of six fours and five sixes.
Shivam Dube partnered Rahane in the middle as the duo put up an 85-run stand for the third wicket in just 32 balls. Dube smashed a 20-ball fifty and Jadeja smashed 18 off eight balls to ensure a mammoth first innings total at Eden Gardens.
