During Tuesday's game against the Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow, KL Rahul of the Delhi Capitals became the fastest player in the Indian Premier League to reach 5000 runs. In his 130th innings, Rahul achieved the milestone, surpassing the previous record of 5000 runs in 135 innings held by David Warner.
He now joins the elite group headed by Virat Kohli, who has scored 8326 runs, as the seventh batsman to reach the 5000-run milestone in the IPL.
Before today, the wicketkeeper-batter needed to attain the milestone with 51 runs. In his innings, he overtook Chris Gayle (4965) as the IPL's all-time top scorer.
Here are the top five players who have reached the milestone of 5000 runs in IPL:
Player | Innings |
KL Rahul (DC) vs LSG in 2025 | 130 |
David Warner (SRH) vs KKR in 2020 | 135 |
Virat Kohli (RCB) vs MI in 2019 | 157 |
AB de Villiers (RCB) vs DC in 2021 | 161 |
Shikhar Dhawan (DC) vs PBKS in 2020 | 168 |
In addition, Rahul became the eighth batsman to reach 5000 runs in IPL history. Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Warner, Dhawan, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, and de Villiers are the others.
With three fifties to his credit and 323 runs from seven games at an average of 64.60 and a strike-rate of 153.80, Rahul has been in outstanding form in the current IPL. After chasing down a goal of 160 with 13 deliveries remaining, the Capitals defeated the Super Giants by eight wickets thanks to a fifty off 40 balls from Rahul.
Rahul had already scored fifty runs against the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru before the match against LSG. When DC plays RCB on April 27 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Rahul will try to maintain the momentum.
