The Los Angeles Olympics have been one of the most sought-after events across the globe. The mega event will include cricket in the 2028 edition as well, and the organisers of the LA28 Olympics are looking for a suitable venue to host the cricket matches, New York has been one of the frontrunners.
It is worth noting that the time difference between Los Angeles and India is 12 hours and 30 minutes, which means that a prime-time game at 8 PM in LA would be broadcast during breakfast in India. However, the time difference between New York and India is about nine hours and 30 minutes, which could be more suitable for the Indian audience.
Furthermore, the game starting at 10:30-11:00 AM on the East Coast, such as in New York, would see the Indian fans watching the game at around 8 PM. A similar approach was opted by the ICC (International Cricket Council) during the T20 World Cup 2024, which was held in the USA. Finding a suitable venue to hold the matches is another challenge that the organisers have been facing. The clashes at the T20 World Cup 2024 were held in modular stadiums, which were dismantled right after the conclusion of the competition in the USA.

"Unlike the other new sports, cricket presents a unique venue challenge. LA28 has been vocal about how it plans to keep costs down by utilising existing venues, but there are very few, if any, suitable cricket venues in California. Or in the rest of the country. The Indian market was a critical part of cricket's pitch to join LA28,” Sportico reported.
Cricket may be held across various venues in USA
Interestingly, if the cricket matches go on to be held in New York, it will not be the first time that a game is held outside of the host city. The football games were held throughout France in the recent Paris Olympics, and the same could be true for cricket in the LA28 Olympics.
