Lance Morris reminds a lot of a young Pat Cummins: Brett Lee

Former Australian cricketer Brett Lee heaped massive praise on 25-year-old pacer Lance Morris. After winning the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year award at the Australian Cricket Awards in 2022, Morris has earned a call-up to the Australian national team for their upcoming home Test series against Pakistan.

Lee opined that the 25-year-old reminds him of a young Pat Cummins. He said that just like Cummins, Morris is also bursting onto the scene and is expected to make his international debut soon.

“He actually reminds a lot of a young Pat Cummins. That’s a massive rap because ‘Cummo’ first came & burst on the scene back when he was about 17 years of age as the boy from Penrith with big blue eyes who was excited to bowl fast. He was like a sponge,” Lee said at Fox Cricket’s season launch event.

“With the real limited time I’ve had the chance to speak to Lance, it’s just been that he’s just been excited about cricket, he understands his game. He’s got a very switched-on brain, as most fast bowlers do, I might add (laughs),” he added.

Lee also stated that he is impressed with Morris as a player and that he has a huge career ahead of him. However, he did state that he was unsure of what 2024 holds for Morris, as there are three other pacers ahead of the 25-year-old who are doing brilliant for the Aussies.

“I’m super impressed; he’s got a big career ahead of him. What’s going to happen this year, though? I’m not sure, because there’s three guys ahead of him that are doing a great job,” Lee said.

“Pace is something that I love watching with these young kids coming through. But certainly, when you get over that 140 km/h barrier, there’s no reason with his action, his temperament, or his technique; he’s young, and he’s excited that he can’t go up to that 150 km/h bracket,” he added.
