Laura Wolvaardt, Lea Tahuhu among others to set fire to Pakistan women's exhibition games
Amazons will be led by Bismah Maroof, who recently resigned as the captain of the Pakistan team, and on the other hand, Super Women will have Pakistan's star all-rounder Nida Dar as their skipper.
The upcoming three women's exhibition games to be organised during the ongoing Pakistan Super League by the Pakistan Cricket Board will feature plenty of stars as Lea Tahuhu, Laura Wolvaardt, Danni Wyatt will be forming part of the ten overseas players set to participate in the event. The competition will see two teams in Super Women and Amazons compete amongst each other in Rawalpindi.
Amazons will be led by Bismah Maroof, who recently resigned as the captain of the Pakistan team, while Super Women, on the other hand, will have Pakistan's star all-rounder Nida Dar as their skipper.
All the three games will be played at the Pindi Stadium and will be followed by PSL games on Wednesday (March 8), Friday (March 10), Saturday (March 11). The PCB is planning to organise a women's T20 league (most probably later this year).
The two teams can play a minimum of three and a maximum of four foreign players in their respective playing XIs. There is also the provision of including one U19 or one emerging player.
"I am delighted to lead the Amazons team in the three exhibition matches of the women's league. This is a great opportunity for our players to express their talent. The involvement of foreign players in the exhibition matches will provide a perfect opportunity to our players to learn from them," said Bismah as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
The first game will look to celebrate the International Women's Day and the second game will be an attempt to generate awareness regarding breast cancer in partnership with Pink Ribbon Pakistan.
PCB head of women's cricket, Tania Mallick believes that the exhibition games will allow the talent in the country to express itself.
"I am thrilled and excited that the exhibition matches for the Women's League are taking place. These exhibition matches provide an exposure to our players to exhibit their talent and play at their best. When you play a league with foreign players it provides the local players an opportunity to know about their skill level and it also motivate the players to improve their game.
This will go a long way to empower our women, not only as cricketers but will provide them a platform and with an opportunity other than playing cricket," Mallick said.
