'Please learn something from India' - Basit Ali's plea to Pakistan team management

India and Pakistan are currently on completely different tracks when it comes to their respective cricketing journey. While India have come back supremely after a heartbreaking loss at the 50-over World Cup in 2023 by winning the T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan have gone through dismal episodes in the aforementioned global events.

Not only that, but they are also on the verge of a crushing defeat against England in the first Test of the three-match series while already having endured a humilating defeat at home to Bangladesh. Former Pakistani cricketer, Basit Ali, in a recent discussion, shared one of the most crucial mental aspects which was absent when it came to the Pakistan's team management.  

"The thought process is very important, which is missing in Pakistan cricket. India rested Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, but nobody rests in our team. Please learn something from India," stated Basit in a video posted on his official YouTube channel.

Gautam Gambhir's thinking has been a success: Basit Ali

Basit also commended the duo of Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh on their respective power-packed innings against Bangladesh in the second T20I in Delhi. He lauded Gambhir's philosophy of backing youngsters to the tee, something which has been amiss when it comes to the think-tank of Pakistan.

"The kind of sixes that Nitish hit should be called athhe (powerful shot in Urdu) and not sixes. And then Rinku Singh is Michael Bevan after all. Gautam Gambhir's thinking has been a success. I am not saying that he will win the World Cup straightaway. Even if they flop, Gautam won't stop backing them, because they pick players and make them and this is the best example of that," added Basit.

Other than the plethora of issues which Pakistan cricket has been plagued with, a primary issue has been not providing adequate rest to their pacers, some of whom play all the formats. The other notable pitfall has been a constant cycle of chopping and changing, and this is not just confined to the players but the higher-ups as well.
