Ahead of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League, the Delhi Capitals franchise appointed former India skipper Sourav Ganguly as their new Director of Cricket. Now, even though, the team is currently struggling in the IPL points table, they have some sharp heads in the management in the form of Ganguly himself, head coach Ricky Ponting, Shane Watson, Pravin Amre, and Ajit Agarkar among many others, who can help the team regain momentum and fight for a place in the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Ganguly and Ponting are two of the biggest names in the history of cricket. Both of them have played a lot of cricket against each other, including the 2003 ODI World Cup final, and later on, they went to play together for Kolkata Knight Riders. Speaking about their camaraderie in the DC dressing room, the former Australia skipper stated that they get on really well as the main goal is to help DC do well in the championship.
“When you talk about rivalry, he was a bigger rival was Steve Waugh was the captain. They had a bit more edge than Sourav and I. We did play a lot against each other, we captained in the World Cup final against each other. But he was involved with DC back in 2019 when things really started to change. He went to the biggest seat in the last couple of years, and now he's back with us,” Ponting told on the Delhi Capitals podcast.
“We get on really well because we can see the bigger picture for this franchise, and what we have to do together to guarantee success for DC. Regardless of if we're not good mates, when you're working in a team, you got to come together and focus on one direction. Leave the past behind, whatever's happened has happened,” the 48-year-old added.
Meanwhile, for Delhi to qualify for the playoffs, the team cannot afford to drop any more points as they are currently at the bottom of the IPL points table. Next up, the David Warner-led side is lined up to face Punjab Kings twice (May 13 and May 17) while their last match will be against Chennai Super Kings on May 20.
