England registered an emphatic victory in the second ODI of the ongoing three-game series against West Indies. Both sides locked horns at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua, on Saturday, November 2 and the clash saw the West Indies come in to bat first. After a good showing, the hosts posted a total of 328 runs in the first innings.
Coming out to chase the mammoth target, it was star England all-rounder Liam Livingstone who propelled England to a brilliant win. Coming out to bat in the middle order, Livingstone scored a brilliant unbeaten 124 in 85 deliveries to chase the target.
Leading England from the front, Livingstone talked about his knock and reflected on how proud he was that he helped England win the game.
"Certain things I have done in practice and at the end of the season in England felt like I have been getting back to my best. Maturing and I am enjoying my cricket and if I am enjoying my cricket, I play well. Pretty proud day,” Livingstone said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
We needed somebody in our top 6 to help us get a big score: Livingstone
Furthermore, Livingstone talked about the importance of Sam Curran’s knock during the run chase. Curran scored 52 runs in just as many deliveries, accompanying Livingstone and ensuring a five-wicket win for the visitors.
"Target the death overs and that is what me and Sammy (Sam Curran) were trying and it worked out perfectly. He played beautifully, I have batted a lot and played a lot of cricket with Sammy, he hit the second ball he faced which was a no-ball for six and did not look back. I trusted him. We needed somebody in our top 6 to help us get a big score,” Livingstone said.
With the ODI series levelled, it is all to play for in the third ODI for the two teams. Both sides will lock horns at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on Wednesday, November 6.
