'Like father, like son' - Twitter erupts as Arjun Tendulkar smashes brilliant century on Ranji debut for Goa
Coming down the order, Arjun Tendulkar smashed a solid century to put Goa in a commanding position.
Former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar is currently part of the Goa squad for the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. The left-arm seamer made his debut in First-class cricket on Tuesday in the Group fixture against Rajasthan and so far, it has turned out to be a dream game for the 23-year-old.
Towards the end of Day one, Arjun came out to bat at number seven and is playing on 112 runs (at the time of writing this article) at the Goa Cricket Association Academy. With Suyash Prabhudessai batting brilliantly at the other end, Arjun had the luxury to see through the tough spell and get settled at the crease. In the first session on day two, Arjun hit a lot of boundaries and exhibited his batting skills.
He was quite focussed on his approach and put away the loose balls while defending the good deliveries. The youngster reached his maiden half-century in Ranji Trophy on his debut while Prabhudessai went past his century from the other end. The partnership was blooming and Arjun played all around the field to get close to the 100-run landmark.
He completed his century in just 178 deliveries with 12 fours and two sixes and has announced his arrival in the domestic stages. Goa has crossed the 400-run mark with the Rajasthan pacers tiring out while Prabhudessai is on his way to a double century as well.
Arjun Tendulkar's impressive run in limited-overs format
Notably, Arjun has played for Mumbai and the junior sides in the previous seasons and so far had picked up 8 wickets in seven List A games. His T20 debut came in 2021 and had picked up 12 wickets in nine games at an impressive economy rate of 6.60 for Mumbai and Goa together. He joined Goa ahead of the 2022 season for more chances in domestic cricket and so far, the move has worked out quite well.
He was first picked up in the IPL auction by the Mumbai Indians in 2021 and since then has been a regular feature in the franchise squad despite not making his debut yet.
