Litton Das 'happy' but reckons Rawalpindi century not his best knock

Bangladesh were 26/6 at one stage in the ongoing second Test against Pakistan at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The hosts were planning to wrap up things early and that’s when Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz built a crucial partnership of 165 runs, which bailed Bangladesh out of trouble and gave them some hope. Miraz scored 78 runs, while Litton hit 138 runs, which helped the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side score 262 runs in the first innings.

It was Litton Das’ fourth century in Tests. Given the situation, it was expected to be Litton’s best Test knock but the cricketer refused to accept it and recalled the knock he played against Sri Lanka in Mirpur in 2022 as the most satisfactory one. Even in that match, Bangladesh were reduced to 25/5 and then Mushfiqur Rahim (175) and Litton (141) made centuries each to help the hosts take control.

Litton believes the Mirpur ton to be a more special knock than the one he played against Pakistan. Nevertheless, he expressed gratitude to have got the opportunity and helping Bangladesh post a good total on the board.

“Not really (my best knock). I scored 141 vs Sri Lanka, it was the same situation. This is a good total. I am lucky to get the opportunity and I am happy,” Litton said at the presser at the end of the third day's play as quoted by India Today.

“We did not plan for very long. When I started with Shakib, he got out early. When Miraz came in, the only thing that we discussed was how to break their momentum. Credit goes to Miraz. I was injured after I got hit by the ball. Miraz put Pakistan on the back foot with his shot-making,” he added when asked about the plan.

Meanwhile, the hosts once again struggled with the bat in the second innings. They were reduced to 81/6 as both Babar Azam and Shan Masood, who faced tremendous criticism in recent times, failed to deliver. The onus lies on the hands of Mohammad Rizwan, who would hope to help Pakistan put a strong target, to finish the series on level terms.
