Here's what POTM Glenn Maxwell said after the match:
"It was hot while fielding today, I haven't done a lot of exercise in the heat, it got a hold on me today. I wanted to stay back and get some movement (on my legs). Not too much (when asked about plans at 92/7), just stick to the batting plans as much as possible, for me, still be positive, still look to play my shots, that LBW, it was going just above (the stumps), probably that made me be more proactive. A hint of swing and nip (off the surface), as it happens here under lights, they bowled beautifully to exploit that. It would have been nice if it was a chanceless knock, but I had my chances, to make the most of it tonight was something I can be proud of. Amazing, after the first two games, people were quick to write us off. The belief was always there (as a team), after today, it would have gone a bit higher," Maxwell said.
Thank you for joining us for this extraordinary game in the ongoing ODI World Cup. See you all tomorrow. Goodnight!
Here's what winning skipper Pat Cummins said after the match:
"Ridiculous. Don't know how to describe it. Great win! It has got to be the greatest thing that has ever happened. One of those days people will say yeah, I was at the stadium for this game. He (Maxwell) was great, he was calm. He always had a plan. Even from 200 behind to be able to win the game that way, it was really special. (On whether Maxwell wanted to walk off) We had two NSW players lining up, Zampa was on and off three times, but Maxi wanted to stay out there. It is important to remember you can win from anywhere. Real belief in the team and we are in the semi-finals now, that's great. (On what they could do better) Don't think it is the time and the place, I'm going to pause that. I think the toss is a bit tricky out here, the first 20 overs are key. Obviously there are things we could have done better," Cummins said.

Here's what losing skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi said after the match:
"Very disappointed. Cricket is a funny game, it was unbelievable for us. We were in the game, our bowlers started very well and the dropped chances hurt us. After that, Maxwell doesn't stop, he played every kind of shot and I can give credit to him. I think the dropped catches were the key, after that Maxwell played really well. Our bowlers tried their best but he didn't give any chance to us. Proud of the team, but we will be disappointed tonight. We didn't think it would be this way, part of the game. This is cricket. We will try to come back strong against South Africa. He (Ibrahim Zadran) must be proud of himself, I am also proud that he is the first Afghan with a WC hundred," Shahidi said.

Here's what Ibrahim Zadran said after the first innings:
“Thanks a lot. Feeling very good to become the first Afghan player to score a 100 against in World Cups. I want to score many more hundreds. I worked very hard for this tournament. Against Pakistan, I missed my ton, so I wanted to make it up in this game. I was feeling like I’d get a hundred in the next 3 matches. Wicket is playing well, I passed the message on that we need to target 280-285. If we had wickets in hand, then maybe even 300 or 330 would be possible. We lost some wickets in the end, but Rashid came out and played brilliantly. Our aim was to score at least these many runs, and then field and bowl well. I had a good chat with Sachin Tendulkar yesterday, he shared a lot of his experiences that I can’t express. I’m very thankful to him for sharing his experiences and giving me a lot of confidence,” Zadran said.
Australia need 292 to win!
Afghanistan finished their innings on 291 runs. Rashid finished on 35 runs in just 18 deliveries while Zadran remained not out on 129 runs.

Afghanistan Playing XI:
Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi (c), Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Ikram Alikhil (wk), Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Naveen-ul-Haq
Here's what Pat Cummins said after the toss:
"Not too much. We would have had a bat but it is fine. Two changes.. Steve struggled in the warm-ups and he's going to miss out, Cam Green misses out as well, Maxwell and Marsh are in. Really happy with the way we have gone, five in a row, one of the most pleasing things is we have 14 guys played so far and everyone has played well, long may that continue. It is always a factor, it was a bit cooler than it was a month ago, we will be fine we have got plenty of bowling options," Cummins said.
Here's what Hashmatuallah Shahidi said after the toss:
"We want to bat first. The wicket looks good now and we are hopeful it will seam and spin in the second innings. We have done well chasing but you also have to look at the opposition and the ground. He is a legend of the game, we were excited to see him and learn him, he had some words for us and we will try to learn from that. We have one change - Fazalhaq is not playiing, Naveen is playing," Shahidi said.
Two changes for Australia:
Skipper Pat Cummins confirmed that Steve Smith will be missing the game along with Cameron Green, who is suffering from back spasms.
One change for Afghanistan:
Naveen-ul-Haq comes in place of Fazalhaq Farooqi.
TOSS TIME:
Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first.
PITCH REPORT:
“Very flat and very even, but it is probably on the drier side than I have seen in the past," reckons Aaron Finch. "I can clearly see there's not enough grass cover on this pitch because it is unlike a Wankhede pitch. Advantage Afghanistan because of the kind of track that is there, it might grip and turn a little bit whether it is bowling first or second. It is always best, with humidity around, to bat first and put runs on the board," adds Sanjay Bangar.
Good afternoon from Wankhede!
Australia are all set to challenge Afghanistan at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In order to stay in the race to qualify for the semis, Afghanistan will aim for a win, while Australia can confirm their semis berth with a win over Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side tonight. Who do you think have the upper hand?
Afghanistan (AFG) and Australia (AUS) will take on each other in Match 39 of the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, on November 7, Tuesday. The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side is coming off three consecutive wins, beating Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands, respectively. They are currently in the sixth position with four wins from seven games they have played so far.
Afghanistan pulled off a stunning show against the Netherlands in their previous game in Lucknow as they restricted Scott Edwards and Co. to a below-par 179 after the opponents opted to bat first. Mohammad Nabi was key for Afghanistan, who finished with excellent figures of 3/28. Later, Rahmat Shah (52) and Shahidi (56*) hit half-centuries and helped Afghanistan cross the line in just 31.3 overs.
Australia, on the other hand, are one of the strong contenders to clinch the title. After suffering two consecutive defeats against India and South Africa, respectively, the five-time champions staged an outstanding comeback and won five games on the trot. They are coming off a 33-run win over defending champions, England, in Ahmedabad.
In terms of the game, England skipper Jos Buttler won the toss and invited Pat Cummins and Co. to bat first. Marnus Labuschagne's 83-ball 71-run knock powered the Aussies to post a reasonable total of 286 runs. The Aussie bowlers ran riot from the beginning and restricted England to 253 in 48 overs. Adam Zampa was the pick of Australia bowlers, who finished with excellent figures of 3/21 in his full quota and went on to win the Player of the Match.
Afghanistan will anticipate a win over Australia as they are eyeing to reach the knockout stage of the ongoing competition. Conversely, the Kangaroos also aim for nothing but a win as it will guarantee them a spot in the semi-final of the showpiece event.
