‘Lot of this goes to him’ - Arshdeep Singh credits Rahul Dravid for inspiring him to join Kent county club
"He [Dravid] told me about the history of this county, and he told me that he played for this team as well," Arshdeep said.
Star Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh recently announced that he will be making his debut in English county cricket as he has been announced as the latest addition to Kent's squad. The 24-year-old will be making his debut against Surrey in the County Championship on Sunday, June 11.
Ahead of his debut, the pacer sat down with the club and talked about his feelings, stating that it was former Indian batter Rahul Dravid who inspired him to join Kent. Furthermore, Arshdeep also reflected on how he felt after joining the squad. The 24-year-old said that it does not feel much different from home, apart from some minor changes, and that he could not wait to get right into the action.
"Why Kent? I guess a lot of this goes to Rahul Dravid, he told me about the history of this county, and he told me that he played for this team as well, and I want to play for this team because of that as well. He has inspired a lot of young players back home, and that is something that inspired me to join Kent as well," Arshdeep Singh said in a video posted by Kent.
Feeling really excited and happy: Arshdeep
"Feeling really excited and happy, first of all, to be here and be part of such a great franchise. A great county with a really rich history, as I have been told by the people back home, and it feels like home here, I’d say; it's just a bit colder than home," Arshdeep said.
"Summers feel like winters here; the atmosphere is really nice; the environment in the dressing room is really nice; and everyone’s been really nice to me. I don’t know, maybe it’s my first day, and that’s why I'm looking forward to achieving some amazing things with the team," he added.
