Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) is making drastic changes to their coaching staff ahead of the next season. Recently, the franchise replaced their head coach Andy Flower with Justin Langer and also appointed MSK Prasad as their strategic consultant. Now in a recent development reports suggest that their mentor Gautam Gambhir is also all set to part ways with the franchise.

Notably, under Gambhir and Flower’s leadership LSG qualified for the playoffs in both of their seasons so far in 2022 and 2023 respectively. However, they got knocked out in the Eliminator in both seasons following losses against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians respectively.

However, according to a report in Dainik Jagran, Gambhir is likely to part ways with the LSG camp and end his two-year association. But team owner Sanjeev Goenka is yet to speak on the matter.

“After Andy Flower, Gautam Gambhir will now leave the IPL franchise… I can’t say anything further beyond this,” the report quoted a source as saying.

The report further suggested that the former India opener has also been in talks with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Notably, KKR are desperately waiting for their third title for almost a decade now since Gambhir led them to IPL triumphs in 2012 and 2014 respectively.

The two-time champions signed Chandrakant Pandit as their head coach for the 2023 season but could turn their team’s fortunes as they ended on the seventh spot on the points table with six wins from 14 matches having eight points to their name.

LSG clears the air with positive post

Meanwhile, amid the widespread reports of Gambhir leaving, LSG took to their X account and posted a picture of Gambhir smiling. LSG took to X to post Gambhir’s smiling picture and wrote, “Time traveller moves a chair GG:”

LSG are desperate to change things around as they’re still hunting for their maiden IPL title. It would be interesting to see if their new coaching staff will lead them to their first title victory in the upcoming season.
