London Spirit captain Heather Knight was full of praise after Deepti Sharma launched a six to win them the coveted trophy in the final over of the game. The India all-rounder initially struggled with the bat but later found her rhythm and made 16 runs to get the job done for London. Danielle Gibson, on the other hand, played a crucial cameo of 22 runs off just nine balls, as London won the game by four wickets.
After the game, captain Knight admitted that they were tense during the final overs of the game. She said she felt sick but was elated with how Deepti finished it off with a six. The 26-year-old didn’t hit any boundary in the match, which built pressure on London but fortunately, the six came at the right time, which resulted in the players losing calm and running onto the ground to celebrate.
“It was tense, I'm an awful watcher, feeling sick for last 20-30 balls, Deepti made a meal of it in the end, kept us on tenterhooks... I'm worried about the trophy lift, it's quite heavy! Dani Gibson, you little beauty, changed the game!” Knight was quoted as saying by India Today.
“It was nervy chasing but Deepti is an experienced player, she held her nerves and did it for us. Absolutely stoked with Deepti, she has been brilliant with both bat and ball. Eva Gray was good with the ball as well,” she said in the post-match presentation.
