The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to hold a Special General Meeting (SGM) in Ahmedabad on May 27, with a core 'working group’ in place to oversee the 2023 ODI World Cup, scheduled to take place in October. Notably, the apex board will discuss a five-point agenda in the meeting to all affiliates with secretary Jay Shah at the helm of the affairs.
The working group for the ODI marquee event will comprise- the BCCI president, secretary, treasurer, acting CEO and other senior officials, as per reports by News18. The board has allocated funds for infrastructure of the stadiums that needs revamping and will be made spectator friendly, that will potentially host the ODI World Cup in October. The team will also look at finalising the venues and ensure smooth conduct of the World Cup at home.
With the mega ODI competition on the horizon, the fixtures are yet to be announced by the ICC. In addition to this, team Pakistan is yet to confirm their tour for the event, which has an influence in the scheduling of the entirety of the competition.
WPL committee to be formed for development
Among other key pointers on the list, the BCCI will also hold talks to have a committee for the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The committee will be formed in order to ensure the development of the league and players coupled with a dedicated window which must be finalised at the earliest.
The officials pondered over the idea of having the event during Diwali, however, with the ODI World Cup slated to be held during the same time, the WPL could have a different window altogether.
“This year, Australian women’s team will be playing international matches till third week of February and hence you can only start WPL after that. In case, you are looking at Diwali window, then there is men’s World Cup," a franchisee official told on conditions of anonymity as quoted by News18.
The BCCI will also work on ratifying its Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PSH) policy at the SGM. This comes after the sexual harassment accusations which came to limelight against former BCCI CEO Rahul Johri.
