Marizanne Kapp rested for ODI tri-series to ensure injury-free World Cup preparations
The Tri-Nation series will start on April 27 between India, Sri Lanka, and South Africa.
South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp is all set to miss out on the most-anticipated ODI tri-series coming up later in April-May in Sri Lanka, where the island nation will host South Africa and India Women teams for a fierce battle. Kapp will also miss the training camp organized for the 20-member squad, keeping in mind the workload on her shoulders.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has given the all-rounder some rest from the tri-series as she will start her individual conditioning block for the ODI World Cup 2025 in India. Kapp has been phenomenal with her performances in the ICC tournaments, and CSA doesn't want to risk injury for the experienced campaigner player. The board further clarified that as a matter of leading up to the upcoming global event, Kapp would be undergoing an individual conditioning block.
"Experienced all-rounder Marizanne Kapp has been rested for the training camp and the upcoming ODIs in Sri Lanka as she begins her individual conditioning block in preparation for subsequent tours and the 50-over World Cup later in the year," the board stated while announcing the training camp.
The series will start on April 27 between India, Sri Lanka, and South Africa at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Before the series, the Proteas Women will go through a training camp, which will help them in the future. The camp will start on April 6 and will continue up to April 14 at the Centre of Excellence in Tshwane.
"Our objectives are quite simple for the camp. We'll focus a lot on running between the wicket rotational game and build on that through scenario-based matches, which will help improve awareness. There will also be nets for skill development, and there'll also be a lot of education around team culture. We're trying to focus on a holistic player from a culture point of view, skill point of view, and mindset point of view," said Head Coach Mandla Mashimbyi in a statement.
