Marnus Labuschagne set to lead Queensland Bulls in Sheffield Shield

Star Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne is all set to lead Queensland for the first time in the Sheffield Shield against the side’s upcoming clash against South Australia at the Adelaide Oval. The 29-year-old made his debut as the skipper in the Marsh One-Day Cup against Redbacks, and will now be leading in the longest format as well. In his debut as the skipper, Labuschagne and Queensland sustained a loss to Redbacks. 

Despite the loss to Redbacks, Labuschagne was the highest run-getter with a hard-fought 74 (from 99 balls) and helped his side on his maiden outing as the skipper. It is also interesting to note that the 29-year-old outing as skipper came after Jimmy Peirson who usually leads in the absence of regular skipper Usman Khawaja was absent due to knee soreness. Talking of the same, the 29-year-old highlighted how he loved the experience of leading a side and despite there being many hurdles, he feels ready to overcome them all. 

"It was my first go and I'm sure I'm going to come across more hurdles if I get the opportunity to do it a bit more, But I just loved it. Loved the experience to see the boys grow and learn, and love to help them out there,” Labuschagne told Cricket.com.au.

A really easy group to lead: Labuschagne

Furthermore, Marnus Labuschagne talked of the side as a very easy group to lead and the quality of players in the side made things a whole lot easier for him. He grasped the basics of captaincy and opined that it is just working alongside the bowlers. Especially in the middle phases of a match how to churn out wickets and beat the batters is what the new skipper has been loving to do with his young bowlers of Queensland. Hence, Labuschagne was looking forward to serving as a skipper in the Sheffield Shield while enjoying the new nuances of the game which comes with it.

"A really easy group to lead. We did an amazing job with the runs we had (218), seeing a few of the boys come up with different plans and different ideas to create wickets through the middle overs,” Labuschagne concluded.
