Matthew Kuhnemann, the 27-year-old left-arm orthodox, has opted to shift base from home state Queensland to Tasmania after spending the entirety of the 2023-24 Sheffield Shield season with Queensland on the benches. It is believed he went through with this decision of his to gain crucial red-ball match practice ahead of Australia's tour of Sri Lanka, tentatively scheduled in next Australian summer.

Kuhnemann was flown in for the Test series against India in 2023 for Mitchell Swepson, who had to fly back home for the birth of his first child. Australia eventually emerged victorious by nine wickets in the third Test in Indore, where Kuhnemann registered marvellous figures of 5/16 to leave the Indians bamboozled. Overall, he has an experience of 20 First-Class games and three Tests.

Kuhnemann expressed his gratitude for the chance to join the skilful Tasmanian squad, and was radiated exitement before joining in the highly-competitive environment.

"I'm very grateful to be given the opportunity from Tasmania to join their talented squad. I'm excited to get down there, challenge myself, and help contribute to winning games and competitions for Tasmania," Kuhnemann told media.

We are excited to have a player of Matt's calibre join the Tigers: Salliann Beams

In addition to red-ball selection, Kuhnemann will also be available for the Marsh Cup. Cricket Tasmania's high-performance manager, Salliann Beams, was delighted at acquiring his services, stating that the left-armer will be an indispensable cog in the white-ball format for them. He also echoed that being a left-arm bowler, Kuhnemann is poised to add a variety to the arsenal.
"We are excited to have a player of Matt's calibre join the Tigers and believe he will play a key role for us in the white-ball format of the game. Matt's left-arm orthodox bowling craft will provide us with a different option to our bowling lineup, as someone who has had success for Australia, and on a national stage in the BBL," Beams said.
