Ahead of the thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season, former England white-ball coach Matthew Mott has been appointed as the assistant coach of Delhi Capitals. The 51-year-old Australian will join the franchise's revamped coaching staff, which includes Hemang Badani as the new head coach, Venugopal Rao as the director of cricket, and Munaf Patel as the bowling coach.

Mott’s cricketing career spans decades, starting as a first-class cricketer with Queensland and Victoria. He then took up coaching roles, first in the Australian and English domestic circuits, before taking on the high-profile role of head coach for the Australian women’s cricket team from 2015 to 2020. During his tenure, Mott led Australia to two T20 World Cups, one ODI World Cup, and four Ashes series victories.

His achievements in women’s cricket earned him the role of the England men's white-ball coach in 2022, a position he held until stepping down in July 2023, after guiding the team to a T20 World Cup title in Australia. Mott has also had a prior association with the IPL, having served as an assistant coach with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the tournament’s first two seasons (2008 and 2009).

"A serial winner who's back for more. Welcome to Dilli, Matthew Mott," DC posted and informed the fans about the new development through their official 'X' handle.

Delhi Capitals bid adieu to Ricky Ponting, new coaching set up for IPL 2025 season

After a disappointing IPL 2024 season, where DC finished sixth, the franchise looks to revamp its backroom setup. In October, former India cricketer Hemang Badani was appointed head coach, replacing Ricky Ponting. The Capitals also brought in Munaf Patel as their new bowling coach, replacing James Hopes.

The 2020 edition finalists, who are yet to win an IPL title, have also changed their squad. In the mega-auction, the team added stars like KL Rahul, Harry Brook, Faf du Plessis, and Mitchell Starc, but have not yet named their captain for the season.
