The mega global cricket event T20 World Cup 2024 is rapidly approaching, and many eyes will be set on the Mitchell Marsh-led Australia. Coming into the competition after freshly winning the ODI World Cup 2023, the Aussies will aim to establish their authority in the shortest format of the game as well.
One of the biggest performers in the Men in Yellow’s arsenal could be star opener Travis Head. On the back of an incredibly successful campaign in the recently concluded IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024, Travis Head will be expected to continue his form.
Despite his exceptional showings, Head was unable to propel his IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad to the title as they lost the summit clash to KKR. The opener was dismissed on a duck in the final, and former Australian cricketer Michael Clarke took centre stage and backed Head to perform in the T20 World Cup.
“I think it's the way he plays. Travis Head has certainly made a conscious effort to be more aggressive, even in Test cricket. So I think when you play like that, you're always going to take more risks and in this format, T20, he is opening the batting, he knows how important the first 6 overs are," Clarke told ESPNcricinfo.
"You know, it is maximum risk, maximum reward. I wouldn't be too concerned about him not making as many runs as we would like... I would rather see him get a duck than a 20-ball-10. When you are batting in that position, get him or get out," Clarke added.
