Mayank Agarwal admitted to ICU after suffering discomfort onboard Surat flight

The right-handed batter was deboarded from the Indigo flight after incessant vomiting in the aircraft.

India cricketer Mayank Agarwal suffered a major health issue while on a flight to Delhi from Agartala and has been rushed to the hospital where he was admitted to an ICU. Notably, Agarwal is currently leading Karnataka in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2023-24 and has scored 310 runs from four matches.

According to reports, the 32-year-old complained of stomach pain and burning sensation in his mouth and throat after consuming some liquid from a bottle and had to be hospitalized immediately. The right-handed batter was deboarded from the Indigo flight after incessant vomiting in the aircraft.

According to ESPNCricinfo, Agarwal is currently undergoing treatment at the ILS hospital in Agartala and much to the relief of his fans, the hospital staff has confirmed that he's clinically stable. They further stated that the cricketer was experiencing some "oral irritation" and "swelling on the lips" and is currently under observation for 24 hours.

The Tripura Cricket Association officials are also at the hospital and is in contact with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). Agarwal is unlikely to take part in Karnataka's next game beginning from February 02.

"IndiGo flight 6E 5177 operating from Agartala to Delhi returned to origin due to a medical emergency onboard. The passenger was offloaded and was rushed to the hospital for further medical assistance. The aircraft took off again for its destination at 1620h," said Indigo in a statement.

The Karnataka captain recently led his side to a 29-run win over Tripura in Ranji Trophy at the Maharaj Bir Bikram Stadium in Agartala, which took place from January 26–29. Agarwal scored a brilliant 51 in the first innings and was among the three half-centurions for his side.

Earlier, he scored a brilliant 109 in the second fixture against Gujarat in a losing cause. Furthermore, he scored 114 in the next fixture against Goa which also fetched him the Player of the Match award. In the ongoing season, he has amassed 310 runs from seven innings so far at an average of 44.28 with two centuries and a half-century.

The 32-year-old has also played 21 Tests for India scoring 1488 runs at an average of 41.33 with four hundreds and six fifties. He last played for the nation during the second Test against Sri Lanka in March 2022.

Meanwhile, having won their previous fixture, Karnataka will next take on Railways from February 02 in Surat. They’re currently ranked on the second spot in Group C with two wins from four matches having 15 points to their name.
