Young gun pacer, Mayank Yadav rose to fame with his sheer pace and wicket-taking ability for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) team in the Indian Premier League 2024. The pacer, however, incurred an injury and was ruled out from the tournament mid-way. His comeback to professional cricket was straightaway with the Indian team as he made his international debut with a T20I game against Bangladesh in October, last year.
After playing three T20Is and picking four wickets, he was expected to feature in the upcoming T20I series against England starting from January 22 with the first T20I at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce the squad. However, reports suggest that the pacer might miss the series due to a back injury.
"He's suffering from a back injury and is unlikely to be fit for the England series. He hasn't even been named amongst the probables for Delhi's first Ranji match of the second leg against Saurashtra from January 23," a source in the BCCI told TΟΙ.
I hadn’t had many opportunities to play competitive cricket: Mayank
Speaking of Mayank Yadav, he made his mark in the first T20I game by bowling his very first over as a maiden. He became the only third bowler after Ajit Agarkar and Arshdeep Singh to do so. He had a short stay with LSG in IPL 2024 and in four games, the right-arm pacer picked seven wickets at an average of 12.14 and an economy rate of 6.98.

“I was excited, but to be honest, I was a little more nervous because I was making a comeback almost 3-4 months after my injury. I hadn’t had many opportunities to play competitive cricket, and then suddenly got the chance to make my international debut. So, I was a bit nervous,” Mayank said after his debut game.
