MI Women Team 2023 Player List: Mumbai Indians (MI) Squad and Players List for WPL 2023

The landmark Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction got underway in Mumbai as 409 players went under the gavel on Monday, February 13. Five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians bagged the services of numerous top-drawer cricketers ahead of the inaugural edition of the WPL. 

The Mumbai-based franchise kickstarted their proceedings when India cricketer Smriti Mandhana’s name was announced. Despite losing the bidding war to Royal Challengers Bangalore, the side then turned towards team India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.

Harmanpreet, who entered the auction at the highest bracket of INR 50 lakh, was snapped up by the side for INR 1.80 crore. With her signing, Mumbai made sure that they have an outstanding leader to guide the side in the forthcoming season. 

Adding to this, the franchise also engaged in a bidding war as they swiftly raised their paddles for Englishwoman Nat Sciver and star New Zealand cricketer Amelia Kerr. They eventually signed them for INR  3.2 crore and INR 1 crore respectively. The side also added the likes of India pacer Pooja Vastrakar and Yastika Bhatia to further reinforce their squad.

Australia’s Heather Graham, who went unsold in the initial rounds, was later signed by the franchise in the accelerated auction for her base price of INR 30 lakh. While the side appears terrific on paper, it remains to be seen how they construct a balanced team for the inaugural season. 

The winning-mentality that the franchise possesses will only help the players push themselves to play at the highest level once the tournament kickstarts in Mumbai in March. The competition is scheduled to be played between March 4 and March 26 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
