Ahead of Australia’s three-game T20I series against the West Indies, Cricket Australia (CA) came forward to announce that star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will be leading the Men in Yellow against the West Indies in the white-ball series.

The 32-year-old had previously taken over the reins as well after he led the side in South Africa in August–September 2023. With the T20 World Cup 2024 looming on the horizon, Marsh’s appointment as the skipper could make him a contender to lead the side in the mega event as well.

His captaincy term for the series comes after regular skipper Pat Cummins and star pacer Mitchell Starc have been rested due to ongoing minor physical issues. Both Starc and Cummins are expected to return for Australia’s series against New Zealand which will be the side’s last assignment before the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the West Indies.

Furthermore, star batter Steve Smith is also missing from the squad against the West Indies, Matt Short will be expected to open alongside veteran batter David Warner.

Australia aim to clinch Test series

Currently, the Aussies are facing off against the West Indies in a two-match Test series. Having won the first Test in dominant fashion by 10 wickets, the Pat Cummins-led side will look to put in a similar performance in the second and final Test as well.

It is worth noting that Australia and the West Indies will face off in the second Test at The Gabba from January 25 and where West Indies will look to improve and draw the series, the hosts will have a different plan in mind.

Australia T20I squad vs West Indies:
Mitchell Marsh (c), Sean Abbott, Jason Behrendorff, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Matt Short, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa
