Mitchell Marsh re-signs with Perth Scorchers for three years
"I'm really proud to sign on with the Scorchers, a team that I've played with since I was a kid, and a franchise that has looked after me incredibly well," Marsh said.
Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has re-signed with Perth Scorchers for the next three years of the Big Bash League (BBL). The Australia T20I skipper has also opened up on his decision to stick with the club for so long, shutting down speculations of moving on from the franchise.
Marsh has played for the Perth franchise for 14 years and has a great record. He has played 71 matches in the BBL for the Scorchers, where he has scored 1904 runs at an average of 38.08 and has taken 25 wickets with the ball. Marsh has also won the tournament five times with the Scorchers.
Many rumours were spreading after Marsh was not mentioned in the pre-signed players list during the transfer window, but with this move, he has shut them down and has even gone on to mention the reason behind signing an extended three-year contract with the team.
“I'm really proud to sign on with the Scorchers, a team that I've played with since I was a kid, and a franchise that has looked after me incredibly well, Being a one-club player was a big part of my decision, which was obviously quite an easy decision,” Marsh said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
“I think with the landscape of cricket these days, a lot of us play for a lot of different teams around the world and the idea of always coming home and playing for the Scorchers and hopefully finishing my career as a one-club player will be something I'm really proud of in years to come,” Marsh added.
A lot of the guys in this team are not only mates on the field but also some of my best friends in life: Marsh
Marsh further opened up on how much his teammates in the franchise mean to him and what his targets while playing for the team will be as well. The statement of the 33-year-old cricketer indicates that he is willing to add more value to the team and hopefully win more trophies going forward.
“A lot of the guys in this team are not only mates on the field but also some of my best friends in life - Joel Paris, who's coming back across, was a groomsman at my wedding. Playing alongside your best mates is always a special experience. I've tuned into every game the last few years and tried to feel part of it all. There's no doubt I'll be around a lot more the next few years, and that's something I'm really looking forward to. It's all about contributing, trying to add value to our team, and making sure we get back to playing finals and chasing more silverware,” Marsh concluded.
