To fill the only vacant position in the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) selection panel, former cricketing stars and experienced professionals are stepping forward. Names being considered for this prestigious role include ex-India spinner Nikhil Chopra, Delhi's Mithun Manhas, and current junior selector Krishan Mohan.
Following the departure of Chetan Sharma, the North Zone has been without representation in the selection committee. However, winds of change are blowing as the BCCI seeks a suitable candidate to fill this void. The application process began in January, heightening anticipation as the board evaluates potential candidates.
With the Indian Premier League (IPL) on the horizon, the BCCI recognises the importance of finalising the selection panel swiftly. The Cricket Advisory Committee, led by Ashok Malhotra, is preparing to interview the shortlisted candidates in the coming days.
Insiders reveal strong contenders like Mithun, Chopra, and Mohan vying for the position. Manhas, known for his impressive performances in first-class cricket and IPL, emerges as a formidable candidate.
"There are a few strong candidates who are in the race and they include Mithun, Chopra, and Mohan," said a BCCI source, as quoted by Times of India.

On the other hand, Ajay Ratra, possessing a level Three coaching certification, brings extensive experience from accompanying the A team on the South Africa tour last year. Meanwhile, Chopra's successful transition to the commentary box post-retirement adds another dimension to the list of contenders.
Based on the eligibility criteria established by the BCCI, prospective candidates are required to meet certain standards. They should have either played a minimum of seven Tests or participated in 30 first-class matches. Additionally, individuals with experience in at least ten ODIs or 20 first-class matches will also be considered eligible for the role.
The cricketing community eagerly awaits the announcement as all eyes turn to the BCCI for the appointment of a deserving candidate to usher in a new era of selection.
