In a big blow to former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, the 60-year-old has been banned from contesting the upcoming elections of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). The HCA elections are being held on October 20 by the Justice Lavu Nageswara Rao Committee.

The decision to ban Azharuddin came after the former cricketer served as the president of Deccan Blues during the time that he was the president of the HCA. As this violated the guidelines of the HCA, Azharuddin was disqualified by the committee.

It is worth noting that the HCA election notification was released on September 30 by VS Sampath. Furthermore, elections will be held for several posts, like HCA president, vice president, secretary, assistant secretary, treasurer, and executive committee posts.

Notably, the nominations for the posts can be filed from October 11 to 13, with the scrutiny scheduled to be held on October 14. The option for withdrawal from the nominations is also available, with it being on October 16. The polling for the same is scheduled for October 20, with the results being declared on the same day as well.

It has also been informed that, due to the dispute between Azharuddin and the various committee members, the Supreme Court deemed it right to conduct the HCA elections again to clear up any remaining confusion.

The decision to conduct the elections came forward after the Supreme Court disbanded the Justice Kakru Committee due to several differences within the committee. After the disbanding, former justice Lavu Nageshwara Rao was given the responsibility to look after the HCA’s affairs.

Rao was the one who removed the 60-year-old from the list of voters in the HCA polls on grounds of conflict of interest. Rao wrote an extremely detailed letter to the former Indian skipper that informed him of his removal. With the decision made clear, Azharuddin is yet to talk about the matter and bring his thoughts about it to light.
