Team Afghanistan suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of the defending champions Australia in both teams' last group stage encounter of the T20 World Cup 2022. Afghanistan's star player Rashid Khan almost took his team past the winning line in the last over, but all-rounder Marcus Stoinis held his nerves in the end and sealed the game for his team by four runs.
Meanwhile, the former Afghanistan skipper Asghar Afghan has said that the team will be very disappointed with the loss. He also said that the likes of Najibullah Zadran and Ibrahim Zadran got out after playing some irresponsible shots.
Whenever you lose a close match you feel a lot of disappointment: Asghar Afghan
"Whenever you lose a close match you feel a lot of disappointment. If you lose a match by 50-60 runs then it does not feel as bad as when you face a defeat by 4-5 runs. It tends to remain in your mind for the next several days. Afghanistan batters like Najibullah Zadran and Ibrahim Zadran must be thinking that they got out after playing some false strokes," Afghan said at BatBricks presents Run ki Runneeti only on Crictracker.
"I believe Afghanistan could have won because the wicket was also good for batting. I think the skipper Mohammad Nabi would be very disappointed with the loss because if Aghanistan would have beaten Australia in the T20 World Cup then it would have been big news," he added.
Meanwhile, the defending champions Australia will be hoping that Sri Lanka defeats England which will open the semi-final gates for the Men in Yellow. Afghanistan, on the hand, will now be going home after playing some decent cricket in the competition.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Nabi said,"Really good game of cricket, they started really well, at the end Farooqi bowled well. The way we started in the powerplay and in the middle, but we throw away that 4 wickets in the middle under pressure. It's really tough to play a game and then don't play for 10 days. We did not get any momentum at all through this tournament. Day by day we improve and today was a fantastic game for us."
