Pakistan men's chief selector, Mohammad Yousuf, has put his resignation from the position, as confirmed by himself.

Yousuf took to social media publicizing his resignation and attributed it to personal reasons. The former cricketer also expressed gratitude towards serving Pakistan Cricket as well as wished the team for better days in his short public statement on the social media platform.

“I announce my resignation as a selector for the Pakistan cricket team due to personal reasons. Serving this incredible team has been a profound privilege, and I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of Pakistan Cricket,” Yousuf wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“I have immense faith in the talent and spirit of our players, and Wish our team all the best as they continue to strive for greatness,” the ex-Pakistan international added.

Yousuf, who averaged an impressive 52.29 in the 156 Test innings he featured for the national side, started his stint as a non-player for Pakistan when the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) had appointed him in the capacity of a batting coach ahead of the multi-format home series against Australia.

With his resignation, his final task was shortlisting the 15 members for the upcoming three-match Test series against England.

Yousuf oversaw a pale patch of the team, as Pakistan drew to New Zealand in the five-match T20I series, lost a game against Ireland, and lost the series against England ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. They also suffered an unexpectedly bizarre setback at the global event when they were knocked out from the group-stages, and further misery was piled in the red-ball format when they extended their winless streak in home Tests to 10 following a whitewash to Bangladesh.

Cricketer Shan Masood, who has captained Pakistan in their past five Tests so far, has not managed to win a single one. However, the PCB have backed him by providing him the responsibility of leading the side yet again. It will be interesting to see him and his side in action during the series, and whether they are able to show some bite in their performances or not.
