Team India's newly appointed bowling coach and former South African pace sensation Morne Morkel has joined the squad ahead of their upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, set to commence on September 19 in Chennai.
The Indian team has already begun preparations for the first Test, with the newly appointed Morkel present at the initial practice session on Friday, September 13. India's recent tour of Sri Lanka was Gautam Gambhir's debut as head coach, however, Morkel was not present at the tour as he had flown back home for family reasons.

The Indian cricket team, led by captain Rohit Sharma, arrived on Thursday night. Star players including Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul were spotted boarding the team bus at the airport. Notably, Virat Kohli made a separate entrance, landing at 4 AM directly from London to join the squad.

Morne Morkel replaced Paras Mhambrey
Morkel's appointment is part of a broader reshuffling of India's coaching staff after the end of Rahul Dravid's successful stint. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had also brought in Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate as assistant coaches, constituting a formidable support team under Gambhir's leadership. Morkel replaces Paras Mhambrey in the crucial role of bowling coach, bringing with him a wealth of international experience.
The 39-year-old records are impressive, with 86 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 44 T20Is under his belt for the Proteas. His familiarity with Indian conditions, gained through 70 matches in the Indian Premier League with teams like Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders, adds significant value to his role.
He recently served as the bowling coach for Pakistan during the 2023 ODI World Cup, though that stint ended prematurely. His experience also includes coaching roles with Namibia, Durban Super Giants, and the New Zealand women's team.

The connection between Gambhir and Morkel goes beyond their new roles with the Indian team. They previously worked together at Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, and Morkel played under the southpaw for KKR.
