MS Dhoni named ambassador for Jharkhand Assembly elections

Legendary Indian wicketkeeper-batter Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been named as the brand ambassador for Jharkhand's upcoming assembly elections.

The former Indian captain, who hails from Ranchi, will collaborate with the Election Commission to encourage voter turnout in the polls scheduled for November 13 and 20. Jharkhand's Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar revealed that Dhoni has formally consented to lend his image and influence to the electoral process. 

"Mahendra Singh Dhoni has given his consent to the Election Commission to use his photo. We are in touch with him for other details. Mahendra Singh Dhoni will work for the mobilization of voters. The Election Commission plans to leverage Dhoni's image and popularity to encourage more people to exercise their right to vote, thereby increasing voter turnout," said Kumar as quoted by TOI.

Dhoni's involvement was announced after the state prepares for two-phase assembly elections

The partnership is used to leverage Dhoni's immense popularity, particularly among young voters, through the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program. Dhoni's involvement was announced as the state prepares for its two-phase assembly elections, with results to be announced on November 23.

With the nomination period for the first phase concluding on October 28, the election machinery is working at full throttle. The final date for withdrawal of nominations is set for October 30.

The Election Commission's loyalty to maintaining electoral integrity is evident in its active enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.

Already, 16 FIRs have been filed for violations, with Garhwa district accounting for the highest number at nine cases. The authorities have also been vigilant in preventing illegal activities, seizing goods and cash worth over INR 5.117 billion since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct.
