In a major development, it has come to light that former India skipper MS Dhoni’s ex-business partner, Mihir Diwakar, was arrested on Tuesday for alleged fraud following a criminal case filed by Dhoni himself. The complaint was filed against Aarka Sports Management Pvt. Ltd., of which Diwakar was a director.
It is interesting to note that he has been taken into custody by the Jaipur police after there were allegations of using the unauthorized name of MS Dhoni in the establishment of a cricket academy in Jaipur. Furthermore, Diwakar was penalized under various sections of the Indian penal code, including sections 406, 420, 467, 468, 471, and 120B.
Diwakar purposefully misrepresented his association with the legendary cricketer to open the academies. The same happened even after Dhoni withdrew authorization for the use of his name.
The case also goes to show how important it is to protect intellectual property rights, even highlighting the consequences of misusing someone’s name without their permission. It is also worth noting that Dhoni had earlier revoked the authority of the company in 2021, but they still continued to misuse the former skipper’s name.
Diwakar allegedly accepted franchise fees and continued to operate the MS Dhoni Cricket Academy and MS Dhoni Sports Academy, leading to a purported fraud of over Rs 15 crores. Diwakar's arrest took place from Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida), from where he was transferred to Jaipur.
Dhoni continues to show up for CSK
Speaking of MS Dhoni, the veteran cricketer is currently competing in the ongoing IPL (Indian Premier League), playing under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad. And, Dhoni has given his fans some moments to remember so far from the tournament.
Batting late in the order, Dhoni rarely gets to bat for CSK. However, the veteran batter drives his fans into a frenzy whenever he does get the chance to bat and showcase his skills.
