Mumbai Police registers FIR against Vinod Kambli for allegedly assaulting wife

Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli has come under a big trouble after reportedly hitting his wife Andrea Hewitt under the influence of alcohol at his Bandra (West) flat in Mumbai on Friday, February 3. It is understood that Andrea filed an FIR against the former cricketer for allegedly abusing and assaulting her.

As per the reports, Bandra police have confirmed that Vinod has been booked under IPC section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace). However, no arrest has been made in connection with the incident as further investigation is underway.

A report from Times of India suggests that the incident took place between 1:00-1.30 pm on Friday when he reached his flat and was under the influence of alcohol. Furthermore, he threw the handle of a cooking pan at her due to which she suffered a head injury as confirmed by an official from Bandra police station.

Their 12-year-old son, who was present during the time of the incident, intervened to stop the fight. However, Vinod, who was inebriated, went to get the handle of a broken frying pan and inflicted a head injury on Andrea.

Vinod played his last international match in the year 2000 but announced his retirement in 2011. He was last seen in the sport as a coach of a team in the 2019 T20 Mumbai League and also mentored cricketers at the Tendulkar Middlesex Global Academy, but left the job due to the long travel involved.

In the 17 Test matches that Vinod played during his professional career, he scored 1084 runs at an average of 54.20 runs which includes four tons and three half-centuries, with his highest score being 227 runs. When it comes to his ODI stats, the former cricketer featured in 104 matches and aggregated 2477 runs at an average of 32.59 with two hundreds and 14 half-centuries.
