There is no doubt that Suryakumar Yadav is one of the finest batters in the world when it comes to T20 cricket. The 32-year-old has wowed spectators all over the world with his unique batting style and a plethora of shots in his arsenal. Both for Mumbai Indians in the IPL and the Indian team in the T20I format, Yadav has established himself as one of the best in the business.
However, there is still much left to be desired for the star batter when it comes to ODI cricket. Suryakumar Yadav has played 26 ODIs for India, where he has only managed to amass 511 runs to his name at an average of 24.33 runs. In 2023, the 32-year-old has played 10 ODIs and has just managed to score 14 runs.
Seeing his subpar record in the 50-over format, the batter recently came forward to reflect on his performances. The 32-year-old accepted that his performances have not been up to par in the format and that there is no shame in accepting it. He also revealed that he had several talks with KL Rahul and skipper Rohit Sharma over what his game plan should be.
"My ODI numbers are very poor and there is no shame in accepting it. Being honest is very important. Rohit and Rahul have told me that this is a format you haven’t played a lot and you need to think about. We want you to play 45 to 50 ball ( if you are batting in the last 15 to 18 overs), and you play accordingly, now it’s in my hand to turn this responsibility into an opportunity and how to contribute to the team’s success," Suryakumar Yadav was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
Suryakumar Yadav’s class led India to a resounding win in the third T20I
Speaking of Suryakumar Yadav’s recent performances, the 32-year-old was on fire in the recently concluded third T20I between the West Indies and India. As the Indian team aimed to chase down a target of 160 runs, Yadav stepped up on the occasion and played a brilliant knock. Scoring 83 runs in 44 deliveries, the 32-year-old propelled the visitors to a seven-wicket victory and helped them claw their way back into the series.
