My statue at Adelaide Oval should be a little fatter: Darren Lehmann
“Not bad. A bit slimming isn’t that one? They didn’t spend enough money, did they? The only thing I’ve got with it is… I think it should be a little fatter," Lehmann said.

Former Australia cricketer Darren Lehmann has revealed what he thinks about his statue at the Adelaide Oval. Lehmann had casual conversation with some fans at the Adelaide Oval on the sidelines of the second Test between Australia and India of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and was asked about his statue at the venue.
Lehmann jokingly opined that they did not spend enough money on the structure as he is a little slimmer than he likes, adding that the statue should be "a little fatter".
“Not bad. A bit slimming isn’t that one? They didn’t spend enough money, did they? The only thing I’ve got with it is… I think it should be a little fatter.. They should have spent some more money on it. But the likeness was great. It was unbelievable how they did it. Obviously it was a great honour as a South Australian. Not only for me but my family, the career I had. I love the place dearly and thought I’m fortunate enough they granted this to me. And it’s good fun,” Lehmann told ABC.
Lehmann also talked about how the statue at the Adelaide Oval has been serving its basic purpose. He revealed how it has been a landmark for people to find their seats.
It is worth noting that the Adelaide Oval also has a statue of former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie midway through his stride, and Lehmann also talked about his disappointment over the fact that they did not get Gillespie’s statue from when he scored the double hundred. “A lot of people say ‘Meet me at Lehmann or Gillespie’, and you start there,” he said.
“He’s (Gillespie) a mate and an all-time great gentleman, a fellow ABC commentator and we get along. And we look forward to catching up. Yea he wanted the double 100. He made the double 100. I never did, though I would have loved to majea Test double 100!” Lehmann added.
