Legendary Australia batter Steven Smith predicted Virat Kohli to be the leading run-scorer for the T20 World Cup 2024. The star India batter was terrific in IPL 2024 and finished as the leading run-scorer, with 741 runs in 15 matches. Smith highlighted the same and mentioned that he will be carrying the momentum to the global tournament and can finish as the top scorer.

Virat reached New York on May 31 and missed India’s warm-up game against Bangladesh on the following day. The surface at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium proved to be on the slower side in the match between Sri Lanka and South Africa and on such a surface, batters may face some trouble. Virat, who mostly plays the role of an anchor, will be critical for India and can make a difference.

“My top run-getter for this tournament will be Virat Kohli. He is coming off a terrific IPL and he is bringing in some great form and I think he will be the leading run-getter,” Smith said in a video shared by the International Cricket Council.

Graeme Smith predicts either Jos Buttler or Kohli to finish as leading run-scorer

The former South Africa captain Graeme Smith believes that any of the top order batters, preferably Jos Buttler or Virat Kohli can finish as the leading run-scorer.

“I am going with a top-order batter. Virat Kohli or Jos Buttler,” Buttler said.

Meanwhile, England will begin their campaign against Scotland on June 4. Ahead of that, the Three Lions played a four-match series against Pakistan, in which, Buttler did a commendable job. He hit 84 runs in the second T20I and 39 runs in the fourth match, while the two other matches were spoiled by rain.

Virat Kohli and India will play their first match against Ireland on June 5. The 35-year-old is very likely going to open alongside Rohit Sharma, while Yashasvi Jaiswal will have to wait for his opportunity.
