After the auction ahead of IPL 2024 was done with, there were widespread discussions taking place about the Royal Challengers Bengaluru getting hold of some big-hitters to bolster their batting order. After all, which opposition wouldn't be wary of a batting lineup comprising Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar, Cameron Green, and Glenn Maxwell as their top 5, with the likes of Will Jacks, Mahipal Lomror, Anuj Rawat, and Dinesh Karthik being their backups, if all of them failed.
Well, cut to today, where RCB have played six, and sit at the absolute bottom of the pile, only managing to salvage a single victory till now. The situation looks all the more grim with Virat Kohli being the lone personality to carry the franchise. However, one individual who's blown the coldest has to be Glenn Maxwell, who's had a nightmarish ordeal with the bat up until now.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar didn't shy away from lambasting the all-rounder's performance this season. Gavaskar opined that the star cricketer has been unable to play fast bowling, especially the deliveries bouncing to the level of his chest or shoulders. He also emphasized that Maxwell's struggles would be exacerbated and found out when confronted with high-quality fast bowling.
“He has been unable to play fast bowling, period. Balls bouncing to his chest or shoulder height are troubling him. He can whack every ball below his waist height, but not the ones above that. When the pacers will reap success, Maxwell will surely find himself at the receiving end. It is just as we say in Hindi, “Naam Bade Par Darshan Chhote (great cry, little wool),” the 74-year-old said on Star Sports.
Kohli continues to shine despite little support
Kohli is leading the Orange Cap list with 319 under his belt despite an underwhelming performance by the team as a whole. Du Plessis, on the other hand, hasn't been impressive to say the least, barely managing in the top 20 run-scorers so far. Karthik has done well as a finisher, but the batting unit hasn't been able to shine, while the bowlers have failed to stem the flow of runs more often than not thus far.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will next take on Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday, April 15, wherein a few changes will be expected in the playing combination. It is worth noting that Maxwell, who wasn't 100 per cent fit the other day, may miss the tie against the 2016 champions.
