Australia have been a force to reckon with since the past several years. Regardless of the format under consideration, they have rarely been overpowered. The cricketing powerhouse has a list of ICC trophies and countless bilateral series' titles to show for their domination in world cricket.

However, Nathan Lyon feels Australia as a side needs a bit more time and a lot of major results to go their way to become a "great Australian team".

"We want to become a great Australian team. We're on that journey, we're not there yet. That's our end goal. Part of that journey is making sure that when we close the window, we nail it shut. It's all about being ruthless and doing our best thing for long periods of time. There's a few things (Australia need to achieve). This is only me and my thoughts as well. We've got some great players within that change-room, there's no point hiding behind that," stated Lyon, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

They're pushing me to try and get better as well: Lyon

Lyon, who shared 17 of the 20 Sri Lankan wickets to fall with Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann in their recent Test triumph, expressed that he felt he was gaining new perspectives of the spin bowling craft.

"We're going okay, but I still feel like we've got a lot of improvement to do. That's about being ruthless. We're three totally different bowlers with three totally different mindsets as well. I feel like I'm learning off Todd and Matt, and I feel like they're pushing me to try and get better as well. Hopefully, I'm passing on a little bit of knowledge here and there," he added.

Lyon scalped seven wickets in the series opener against Sri Lanka in Galle. The triumph by an innings and 242 runs was Australia's greatest margin of victory in Tests in the subcontinent. The second game of the red-ball series will be played at the same venue in Galle.
