Netherlands strengthen coaching panel by adding Gary Kirsten, Dan Christian for T20 World Cup 2022
Netherlands start their campaign against UAE on October 16 in the T20 World Cup 2022.
Netherlands have received a major boost ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia as Gary Kirsten and Dan Christian will join the coaching team for the ICC event. The Dutch side are currently placed in Group A for the Round 1 qualifiers alongside United Arab Emirates, Namibia and Sri Lanka and they are set to play two warm-up games against Scotland and West Indies. The Scott Edwards led-side will start their campaign against UAE on October 16.
Coming back to the coaches, Kirsten is one of the best in the business and has coached India in the 2011 World Cup triumph. He also has immense experience after being in the coaching setup of South Africa, and added another talking point to his kitty with the triumph of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 this year. He was quite keen to joining the side as consultant and heaped praise on their skill sets.
“I really enjoyed working with the Dutch Team in Cape Town and I look forward to joining them as a consultant in the T20 World Cup," Kirsten said as quoted by ICC.
"I was impressed with the level of skill and professionalism during the camp. They will be ready and determined to make an big impact at the T20 World Cup.”
Dan Christian gets roped into coaching setup
Meanwhile, Dan Christian is one of the T20 specialists going around and has played a lot of T20 leagues around the world. The 39-year-old is quite brilliant with his variations and can bang a few down the order. He hasn’t retired yet from international cricket and will be a useful prodigy in the coaching setup for Netherlands having known the conditions in Australia quite well.
“I’ve had a great couple of weeks getting to know the guys, and I’ve been extremely impressed with everyone’s work ethic at practice," Christian said.
"I’m looking forward to seeing them have some well-deserved success on the field,” he added.
