After a prolonged absence due to injury, all-rounder Michael Bracewell is set to lead the Black Caps in their upcoming T20 series against Pakistan. Bracewell's comeback holds great significance for the team, as the seasoned player is ready to assume the captaincy role for the five-match series later this month.

His return to international cricket, following setbacks like a ruptured Achilles and a broken finger, fills a notable void in the team. Since his recovery, Bracewell has quickly made an impact on the field with outstanding performances, including impressive first-class figures in his return match in the Plunket Shield.

Accompanying Bracewell in the squad are familiar faces from past T20 World Cup campaigns and promising newcomers Tim Robinson and Will O'Rourke. However, key players like Trent Boult, Devon Conway, and Kane Williamson are absent due to commitments in the Indian Premier League.

Selectors have also had to consider the unavailability of Will Young and Tom Latham, with Latham awaiting the birth of his second child. Additionally, Tim Southee, the team's leading T20 wicket-taker, will be resting after a strenuous playing schedule.

Black Caps selector Sam Wells commended Bracewell's resilience and commitment during his recovery, highlighting his determination and leadership qualities that will be advantageous for the team in Pakistan. Wells expressed his delight at seeing Bracewell back in action after his time off the field.

"Michael has faced a long period on the sideline and it's exciting to see him back playing cricket again. The fact he's back playing at a high level after an Achilles rupture is testament to his hard work and application. He's a well-respected leader and has captaincy experience for Wellington along with New Zealand A and New Zealand XI teams, which we believe holds him in good stead to lead the group in Pakistan," said Wells as quoted by rnz.co.nz
