‘Next best batsman after Virat Kohli’ - Ramiz Raja lauds Shubman Gill following fabulous knock against PBKS
Ramiz Raja heaped praise on the 23-year-old Shubman Gill in a video on his YouTube channel.
The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has seen many ups and downs so far. However, the one constant has been the superb form of star Indian batter Shubman Gill. The 23-year-old has added 183 runs to his name in four matches played so far in the ongoing tournament.
Gill was especially fabulous for Gujarat in their recent win against Punjab Kings. After the Shikhar Dhawan-led side posted 153 runs on the board, Gill played a sensational knock, scoring 67 runs in 49 deliveries, to take Gujarat home. His performance played an integral role in the chase, as the defending champions ultimately clinched a victory.
Following his brilliance, former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja came forward to heap praise on the 23-year-old's recent knocks. He also went as far as comparing Gill to the likes of ace Indian batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
"He has so much potential, he has so much time. He looks so naturally beautiful when he plays. When he drives, there’s a curve on the shot. He has a lot of time to play his strokes. It doesn’t matter if he scores on the off side, on side, hook or pull, it’s just so beautiful and neat-and-clean. Many predict that he could be the next best batsman after Virat Kohli. He has touch, class, and elegance like Rohit Sharma. And his temperament is quite strong," Ramiz Raja said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Sky is the limit for Gill: Raja
Continuing upon the same, the 60-year-old went on to opine that Gill had been sensational for India in every format, and with the amount of talent he possesses, the sky is the limit for the 23-year-old. He also went on to count Gill's excellence across formats.
"From Tests, ODIs, and T20Is as well, he has tormented the bowlers. When you see him, it seems like time has stopped. At such a young age, he already has records. Sky is the limit for him," Raja concluded.
