The Border-Gavaskar Trophy ended up being a disappointing campaign for the Indian team whose 10-year dominance against Australia finally ended after their loss in Sydney. The Australians went on to win 3-1 and also ruined India’s chances of making it to the WTC Finals where the former will be facing South Africa at Lord's.

This loss for the Indian team has led to the Indian selectors and management being questioned on how the team was chosen in the series. Some experts have not liked how the team was selected in this five-match series despite there being notable performances here and there. Former World Champion and commentator Harbhajan Singh also had a lot to say about the selection and indicated that it needs to be based on performances while mentioning Indian stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

“The selection should be based on the performance, whether Virat or Rohit. No player is bigger than the game, even if they think they are superstars in their minds. If you want to take senior players on tour, you have to make sure they play county cricket before the England series," Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.

Harbhajan also went on to talk about the two-spinner strategy in Sydney which did not make sense to him looking at the conditions which were great for the seamers who were getting extra bounce and seam movement.

“How was selection done? Was there any point in playing two spinners in Sydney on this pitch where they didn't even bowl? So, to extend your batting, you added spinners because they can bat. But you didn't see if there was another good seamer, things could have been better. They are stuck to stubbornness. This is not the T20 format. Test cricket is played differently," Harbhajan added.
