'No practice game, no tour match' - Stuart Clark believes Australia were short on preparation ahead of Nagpur Test
Australia lost the first Test by an innings and 132 runs as team India took the lead in the series by 1-0.
The Australian team badly lost the first Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Facing team India, Australia got a turning wicket that they expected but were still unable to deal with Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and the explosive knock of skipper Rohit Sharma.
Now after their humiliating loss, former Australian cricketer Stuart Clark has opined on the Aussies' performance in the first Test against India. Clark also reflected on the fact that Australia were not ready for the conditions in the subcontinent.
"I think the bit that gets me about it all is - and we talked about it before the series started - were they as well prepared as they could be? And the general consensus, if you talk to anyone on the street, is ‘no, they weren’t," Clark said on Sky Sports Radio's Big Sports Breakfast.
"No practice game, no tour match, turn up ... and got dusted in a manner people are pretty disappointed about. Say what you want; they got smoked. India are a pretty good team in their country, but I just don’t think they were prepared well enough," he added.
Australia will be looking for a change in their game plan in the second Test
Thanks to the excellent performances by Rohit Sharma, Jadeja, Ashwin, and Axar Patel, team India managed to register a win over the Aussies by an innings and 132 runs. When both sides face each other in Delhi on February 17 for the second Test, Australia will be hoping that things turn in their favour this time around.
Time will tell whether that will see dropping some players or having a new strategy altogether. They'll have to figure out how to counter India's spin attack, as Jadeja and Ashwin were the bowlers who took out the majority of Australia's batting attack. Both teams face each other on Friday, February 17 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
