Non bailable warrant issued against former India cricketer Prashant Vaidya

Nagpur Police executed a non-bailable arrest warrant against former India cricketer Prashant Vaidya in a cheque-bouncing case on Wednesday, January 31. The 56-year-old was produced before a court which released him on a surety bond, according to a police official.
Vaidya had reportedly issued a cheque to a local trader after purchasing steel which bounced. Following this, the trader demanded a fresh payment informed inspector Vitthalsingh Rajput of Bajaj Nagar police station.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, the former India player further refused to pay forcing the trader to move to the court which issued a non-bailable warrant against him for skipping court hearings. The former right-arm pacer is currently head of the Cricket Development Committee of the Vidarbha Cricket Association.
He was also associated with the joint most successful side of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Mumbai Indians (MI) as a talent scout for MI junior. The Nagpur-born cricketer made his international debut during an ODI against Australia in Dunedin in February 1995. His first international scalp was David Boon whom he got out caught on his debut.
The right-arm seamer went on to play four ODIs for India and picked four wickets at an average of 43.50 and an economy of 5.67. Vaidya’s best bowling figures came against Bangladesh on April 05, 1995, as he scalped 2/41 in 8.4 overs helping in bundling out the opposition for 163.

His last international appearance came against South Africa during 3rd game of the Sharjah Cup in April 1996. Vaidya didn’t have a memorable outing in his last game leaking 42 runs in six overs as the Proteas went on to score 288/6 and won the match by 80 runs.
The 56-year-old has also played 56 First Class matches and picked 171 wickets at an average of 28.64 and an economy of 3.34. He also scored 1038 runs in the format with five half-centuries to his name. In List A cricket, Vaidya has 46 wickets to his name from 41 innings at an average of 29.10 and an economy of 4.65.
