Other than the three wickets that initially brought joy to the Indian camp, the Indian bowlers struggled a lot and failed to make any sort of significant impact on Day 1 of the World Test Championship finale against Australia at The Oval.

The pacers failed to capitalise on a good start and Travis Head and Steve Smith played some brilliant cricket to help Australia post 327 runs at the end of the day’s play. Head hit 146* runs off 150 deliveries while Smith scored 95* runs off 227 deliveries and with that, the Pat Cummins-led side is in the driving seat leading into Day 2.

When it comes to team India, KS Bharat has been one of the standout performers for the Rohit Sharma-led side so far. The wicket-keeper has been remarkable behind the stumps, picking up two important catches, including a difficult one of David Warner, who was looking dangerous in the middle. Other than that, Bharat’s communication with Rohit Sharma too was applauded by many former cricketers.

Notably, in the final session of the day, Smith tried to pull Shami but unfortunately, failed to connect the ball. Standing in the slip cordon, Virat Kohli got excited and appealed to the umpire. When the umpire turned it down, Virat asked skipper Rohit Sharma to take a review but that’s when KS Bharat stepped in and asked both Rohit and Virat not to go for the review.

Talking about the same on-air, former commentator Nasser Hussain praised KS Bharat for his bravery to turn to Virat and convince him not to take the review.

“He was very tough with Virat Kohli. Not easy to overrule Kohli but that's exactly what he did. Kohli wanted to review that but Bharat, playing in his 5th Test match, had to run to King Kohli and say 'Nope, you got that wrong' Brave man, but right,” Naseer said while commentating.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri added that any other cricketer instead of Bharat would have given it a second thought before telling Kohli. He went on to add that even Cheteshwar Pujara had to calm Virat down.

“He jolly well be a senior. Yes, these batsmen, and the competition. If it was anybody else, he would have been half as expressive. In fact, Pujara of all people had to say, 'Virat, calm down. calm down’” Shastri mentioned.
