India skipper Rohit Sharma had another forgettable outing in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. After Australia posted a total of 474 runs in the first innings of the game, India opened their innings with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal coming out to bat.
Continuing his subpar form, Rohit Sharma departed quite early on into his innings. Rohit was dismissed on a score of three runs in five deliveries, falling prey to Pat Cummins. It is worth noting that Rohit Sharma batted in the middle order in the second and third Test of the series but could not go big.
In the fourth Test, Rohit pulled off a half-hearted pull shot that went straight up in the air, resulting in his dismissal. Talking about his performance, former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting took centre stage and opined that it was a lazy shot from Rohit.
"That's just a lazy, not switched on, not up for the moment type of shot. He's been known as one of the best hookers and pullers of the ball since he's made his debut but that's just not there. It's nothing. It's not committed, not really looking to be aggressive, he's just looking to tap it on the head,” Ponting told Channel 7.

You've got to be making good decisions: Ponting
Furthermore, Ponting opined that a player of Rohit’s calibre should have his full attention on the game and should be switched on. He also admitted that a player needs to be fully focused if he is to survive against this Australian attack.
"Might have held in the wicket yes, it might have seamed away from him a fraction. But if you're going to survive against this Australian attack, you've got to be switched on. You've got to be making good decisions. If you're not, they'll knock you over every time,” Ponting said.
