Tim Seifert has been called up as Mark Chapman's replacement in the second ODI of the series between New Zealand and Pakistan in Hamilton. This comes after Chapman was ruled out after sustaining a grade-one tear to his hamstring while fielding in the series opener on Saturday, March 29.

Provided Seifert makes the cut, it will be his first ODI appearance in a little more than six years. While the 30-year-old has represented New Zealand in 66 T20Is so far, he has played only three 50-over games for the Kiwis so far. Seifert ended up as his side's leading run-scorer in the recently-concluded T20I series, with 249 runs in five innings at a blistering strike rate of 207.50.

Chapman is expected to link up with the squad for the third and final game of the ODI series on Saturday, April 5, in Mount Maunganui. Interestingly, that game marks the last men's international fixture of the New Zealand summer. The southpaw registered a career-best 132 in the opening game of the series in Napier.

Great to be able to call on a player of Tim's experience: Stead

Head coach of the New Zealand setup, Gary Stead, hoped for a speedy recovery for Chapman. He also commended Seifert's form and his batting prowess as a positive aspect while heading into the second game of the ODI series.
"It's obviously disappointing news for Mark, after a really special innings in the opening ODI in Napier. We're thankful that the hamstring injury is only minor, so we're hopeful that Mark will be able to complete his rehabilitation and be available for the final match of the summer in the Mount. With several new faces in this squad, it's great to be able to call on a player of Tim's experience. He's in good form after a great T20 series, and he provides another strong top-order batting option heading into an important match tomorrow," stated Stead, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
A win in Hamilton will guarantee the Kiwis with the series. It will also mean that this would be their third series victory in the calendar year after their 2-1 win at home against Sri Lanka and the tri-series victory in Pakistan with Pakistan and South Africa being the other two sides.
