New Zealand Women replace injured Hayley Jensen with Fran Jonas for Sri Lanka ODIs
Fran Jonas joins New Zealand's squad as Hayley Jensen is ruled out of the Sri Lanka ODI series due to injury.
New Zealand Women are all set to host the ODI series against Sri Lanka Women's starting on Tuesday, March 4. However, ahead of the three-match series, the White Ferns are suffering from injury woes. Some big names are already missing from the Suzie Bates-led side.
Now in the latest development, another player has joined the injured list with the Kiwi pacer Hayley Jensen being ruled out of the series. Notably, she suffered an injury during warm-up in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield final. As a result, the 32-year-old has been replaced by young left-arm spinner, Fran Jonas, ahead of the series opener. Jensen's injury meant that there were also some questions regarding her availability for the T20I series as well. Addressing the concerns, New Zealand Women’s head coach Ben Sawyer gave an update on the Otago player.
"Jensen will be reassessed before the T20I series, Hopefully, she can get back in time but it will be up to the physios how she goes. Jonas will fly in tonight and join the team in the morning,” Sawyer was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
Jensen and Jonas' women's ODI record
Speaking of Jensen’s performances in the 50-over format, the New Zealand quick has played 35 matches in which she has taken a total of 28 wickets. Though her average of 35.78 is slightly on the higher side, she still has a decent economy of 4.94. The Christchurch-born had a decent season in the New Zealand One-Day Cup for Otago Women, where she took 15 wickets from the 10 matches she featured in.

Quite interestingly, on the other hand, Jensen's replacement, Fran Jonas, though has a decent economy in the format, has remained inconsistent in picking wickets. In the 25 ODI games she has played, she could only manage 17 wickets at an average of 47.70 and an economy of 4.63. The 20-year-old spinner also played in the One-day Cup, where she took 10 wickets in the nine matches she played for the Auckland Women.
